Comic Halftone

It is comic-book display lettering: thick solid black outlines around every character, with the interiors filled by a regular grid of coloured dots set on a forty-five-degree angle. It is the Ben-Day look of newsprint comics and the pop art that borrowed from them. FontVibe renders your text that way and returns an image.

No. The dot grid has to be generated across the letters at the right scale and angle for the image. FontVibe returns the finished picture.

Comic and manga covers, pop art posters, screen-print style merchandise, retro advertising pastiche, and pop culture branding that wants a printed-in-1965 voice.

Yes. FontVibe images carry no licence fee, royalty or attribution requirement.

Because old comic presses could not print a pale colour — they could only print full-strength ink or nothing. To fake a lighter tone, printers laid down a grid of small dots and let the eye average them with the paper, so a fifty-percent dot pattern read as a mid tint. The forty-five-degree angle was chosen because the eye notices it least. Reproducing that grid is what makes the colour feel printed rather than filled.

Comic Bold has the same outline and energy but solid colour inside, which reads as modern comic art rather than vintage print. Sticker Outline keeps the heavy border and turns the whole word into a die-cut sticker.
